Why Wasn’t I Selected?!

doodles, rescue, volunteer, dogs.

We recognize the disappointment our followers feel when they fall in love with one of our doodles and then aren’t chosen to adopt.  To help potential adopters understand what happened, here is some background information on why your application may not be chosen.

Reason 1, Competition

Please don’t be discouraged if you aren’t selected for a dog you applied for!  Some of our doodles are very popular and get a lot of applications right away.  This is especially true of young, curly-cute doodles, particularly if they are smaller.  One of our adorable doodles got 100 applications in just 24 hours!  So if you weren’t selected this time, please try again.  Persistence pays off—as these adopters found. Read here to learn more about how the wait can be worth it!

At Doodle Dandy, our focus is on matching each dog to the best possible home.  Some of our dogs have been through the pain of being surrendered or were rescued as strays.  Our goal is to make a great match for each dog, so they find their forever family.  Remember, while your application may not have been ideal for this dog, you may be the perfect person for another doodle coming soon.

Reason 2, Application Information

We recognize that our adoption application asks for a lot of information.  We ask these questions because they help us find a home environment that will be a successful placement for each dog.  For instance, some doodles are great with small kids, while others are too energetic for littles or too sensitive for a bustling family.  We want to be certain that we are placing each of our doodles with a family where everyone can thrive and enjoy each other!

How Do I Make My Application Stand Out Next Time?

  • Read the dog’s bio thoroughly, and pay attention to each doodle’s “must haves.”

  • Answer each question on the application, so DDR has complete information.

  • Be thoughtful in filling out the application, and provide enough detail to give a clear picture of your family and home.

  • Make sure to mention the factors that make your home a match for this doodle.

  • If you are open to considering another of our adoptable dogs, please tell us in the "Comments and/or Preferences” section.

It’s fine to apply for more than one dog at a time—we all understand how it feels when you’re ready to add to your pack!

Additional Thoughts

If two homes both seem like a great fit for the dog, DDR does give preference to the one with an earlier availability to pick up their new family member.  It’s best for the doodles to get settled in their forever home as soon as possible—and allows DDR to help more dogs.

Fostering—in addition to helping DDR save dogs—is also a great way to meet doodles coming into the rescue.  Permanent fosters have the option of adopting the dogs they foster, a wonderful opportunity. If you are interested in fostering, apply here.

Some of our very adoptable doodles are less popular, for one reason or another.  If you see an older or larger doodle, please read their bios, too.  They may surprise you by being perfect for you!
