When Bridgette first came to Doodle Dandy Rescue, she didn’t really know how to be a dog. She didn’t know that people could be trusted. She didn’t know that a home could be a safe place. And she certainly didn’t know just how much fun being a dog could actually be. Today, Bridgette is a completely different girl. She is spunky. She is goofy. She plays hard, runs like her legs have somewhere very important to be, and has developed quite the personality.

Fostering a rescue dog is rewarding, but it isn't always easy. Behind every happy adoption photo is a foster who has spent weeks — sometimes months — helping a dog heal, learn, trust, and simply feel safe. There are vet visits, unexpected challenges, sleepless nights, messy days, and eventually the hardest part of all: saying goodbye. For this Foster Flash, we're highlighting two incredible fosters from Central and South Texas: Mary Harris from Austin and Jenny M. from San Antonio.

Fostering a rescue dog sounds simple enough: open your home, give them some love, and help them find a forever family. But the reality is so much more complicated. Fosters may find themselves caring for sick puppies, dogs recovering from major medical issues, fearful dogs who have never experienced life inside a home, or dogs who simply need time to understand that they are finally safe. And then there are the breakthroughs. Those moments are why our Houston fosters keep saying yes.
