Our Story
The mission of Doodle Dandy Rescue is to rescue, rehabilitate & rehome Doodle dogs in crisis so that they are adoptable into safe and loving homes in Texas. We strive to be a rescue leader in our community by implementing best practices in the treatment of dogs in our care. We live and work by our motto:

Not just a rescue
In achieving our vision, DDR is committed to providing training in and veterinary care to ensure the doodles we rescue have the ultimate opportunity not only to survive trauma but thrive in their new life. We are driven by our love of dogs and our values.
We are an all volunteer organization
DDR works to rescue Doodle Dogs from shelters and other situations where the dog is in danger or neglect.
Beyond DFW
While we were founded in Dallas County and have our largest DDR community in the DFW area, we have grown to have active satellite DDR groups in Austin, Houston, and San Antonio. With a foster network of over 1000 foster homes throughout the state, we can meet the needs of rescue doodles all over Texas.
How we work
Our loyal corps of volunteers monitors shelter admissions and responds quickly when notified about Doodles in need of rescue. They secure release from the shelter, many of which are high kill, and provide temporary care until the dog can be placed with foster families.
The dogs coming out of shelters or that have been abandoned are often injured, malnourished, and severely matted. Temporary care by our volunteers often includes arranging transportation from remote areas to DFW or one of our satellite cities.
Once in foster care, dogs receive medical assessment, treatment, and grooming as needed as well as behavioral attention as they transition from traumatized to secure.
Since our founding in the summer of 2018 through 2022, we have adopted out over 600 doodles!
Our work is far from done.
Shelter populations are climbing and there are more doodles to rescue. DDR also provides empathetic assistance to families who are faced with the heart wrenching decision to relinquish a beloved pet.
Our Re-Home program provides a safe and nurturing transition from one home to the next. Since the beginning of 2021 through the first quarter of 2023, we have received over 1000 rehome applications, and we have 3-4 new applications daily! Our intake team is quick to reach out and deal with emergencies and find placements for as many of these dogs as we can.

Doodle Dandy Rescue is not just a rescue for doodles. It’s also a vibrant, caring community of people who care about the dogs and who care about each other. We are friends and neighbors who have bonded over a common purpose to save Doodle Dogs. We have room for you, too.
