Our Story

The mission of Doodle Dandy Rescue is to rescue, rehabilitate & rehome Doodle dogs in crisis so that they are adoptable into safe and loving homes in Texas. We strive to be a rescue leader in our community by implementing best practices in the treatment of dogs in our care.  We live and work by our motto:

Be Kind   Work Hard   Save Doodles

Not just a rescue

In achieving our vision, DDR is committed to providing training in and veterinary care to ensure the doodles we rescue have the ultimate opportunity not only to survive trauma but thrive in their new life.  We are driven by our love of dogs and our values.

We are an all volunteer organization

DDR works to rescue Doodle Dogs from shelters and other situations where the dog is in danger or neglect.

Beyond DFW

While we are based in Dallas County, we have built relationships with shelters across Texas. Over 500 active volunteers including rescue, and foster teams provide a lifeline for abandoned and abused Doodles in San Antonio, Houston, and Austin as well as the DFW Metroplex.

How we work

Our loyal corps of volunteers monitors shelter admissions and responds quickly when notified about Doodles in need of rescue. They secure release from the shelter, many of which are high kill, and provide temporary care until the dog can be placed with foster families.

The dogs coming out of shelters or that have been abandoned are often injured, malnourished, and severely matted. Temporary care often by our volunteers often includes arranging transportation from remote areas to DFW or one of our satellite cities.

Once in foster care, dogs receive medical assessment, treatment, and grooming as needed as well as behavioral attention as they transition from traumatized to secure.

In just two years, Doodle Dandy Rescue has provided a lifeline for over 300 Doodles of all ages.

Our work is far from doneShelter populations are climbing and there are more doodles to rescue. DDR also provides empathetic assistance to families overwhelmed by economic uncertainties created by the Covid pandemic who are faced with the heart wrenching decision to relinquish a beloved pet.  Our Re-Home program provides a safe and nurturing transition from one home to the next.
