At Doodle Dandy Rescue, many volunteers start with a single “yes” — and before long, that yes grows into something life-changing. For Cadence Landry, what began as a foster experience quickly turned into a deep passion for rescue, community, and making a difference for dogs in need.
Today, Cadence plays a vital role in the Houston region, bringing energy, heart, and connection to everything she does.
How Cadence Joined the DDR Family
Cadence began volunteering with Doodle Dandy Rescue in July of 2025 as a foster.
Her journey started with a moment she couldn’t ignore.
"I saw a Facebook post about two 6-month old doodle puppies that needed a home ASAP or they would be euthanized. A friend of mine had adopted from Doodle Dandy Rescue, so I reached out to ask if the puppies could be surrendered to DDR, and I offered to foster them myself."
That experience opened her eyes to a reality many don’t expect.
"It really opened my eyes to how many dogs are in shelters right now, even designer breeds that people assume will always find homes."
From that moment on, she knew she wanted to be part of the solution.
What She Does (Roles & Impact)
Cadence has grown into multiple roles within the Houston team, including:
Foster
Houston Events Coordinator
Foster Mentor
"I loved the experience so much that I now volunteer as the Houston Events Coordinator, helping grow awareness of DDR in our area, and as a foster mentor, supporting new fosters as they begin their journey."
Whether she’s planning events, mentoring new volunteers, or opening her home to dogs in need, Cadence is helping expand DDR’s reach and impact in meaningful ways.
Why Rescue Matters to Her
For Cadence, rescue is about stepping in when it matters most.
"It made me realize how important rescue organizations are, and it inspired me to do my part to help however I could."
Her willingness to act — and to continue showing up — is what makes her such a valuable part of the rescue community.
What She Loves Most About DDR
"I love how fun it’s been! The community at DDR is amazing."
Cadence values the support and connection she’s found through the rescue.
"There are so many people who are passionate about helping dogs, and I’ve always felt supported through all the ups and downs that can come with fostering."
That sense of community is what keeps her coming back, day after day.
A Rescue Memory That Stands Out
Cadence’s very first fosters remain some of her most meaningful.
"My first fosters, the two 6-month-old puppies that I saw on Facebook that needed help, is a story that makes me smile."
Their story is one of second chances made possible through rescue.
"They were the last ones left and lived outside 24/7 on a farm. The owner posted that if someone didn’t pick them up, they would be euthanized."
Cadence stepped in — and everything changed.
"Because of DDR, those two puppies are alive today. They were the sweetest, most gentle, and smartest dogs. Seeing them get their second chance is the most rewarding feeling."
A Moment That Made Her Smile
For Cadence, every meet-and-greet day is unforgettable.
"I fall in love with every dog that comes through our home, so it’s always a little bittersweet when it’s time to say goodbye."
But those goodbyes always come with something beautiful.
"Seeing how perfectly they match with their forever families heals my heart every time."
How Rescue Has Impacted Her
"I’m a stay-at-home mom, and fostering and event planning have given me a spark that I didn’t realize I was missing after leaving the workforce."
Through her work with DDR, Cadence has found purpose, connection, and fulfillment.
"It’s so rewarding getting to make a small impact on rescuing dogs in need, some of which wouldn’t have had a chance without organizations like Doodle Dandy Rescue."
Life Outside of Rescue
Cadence’s home is filled with love — even if it doesn’t (yet) include a doodle.
"I may be the event coordinator, a foster mentor, and a foster for Doodle Dandy, but I don’t have a doodle."
Instead, she has a loyal companion who plays an important role in her fostering journey.
"We currently have an 11-year-old springer spaniel who has been the best foster buddy to all the doodles who come through our home."
And as for the future? "But who knows what the future holds…"
Why We’re Grateful
Cadence brings energy, compassion, and a true passion for rescue to Doodle Dandy Rescue. From stepping up for dogs in urgent need to mentoring new fosters and growing community awareness through events, she makes a meaningful impact in every role she takes on.
Her willingness to say “yes,” her love for the dogs, and her commitment to helping others succeed embody the very heart of our mission. We are so grateful to have her as part of the Doodle Dandy Rescue family.
