Bridgette: From Fear to Fun
When Bridgette first came to Doodle Dandy Rescue, she didn’t really know how to be a dog. She didn’t know that people could be trusted. She didn’t know that a home could be a safe place. And she certainly didn’t know just how much fun being a dog could actually be.
Today, Bridgette is a completely different girl. She is bouncy. She is spunky. She is goofy. She plays hard, runs like her legs have somewhere very important to be, and has developed quite the personality. Her foster mom says that out of the 19 foster dogs she has cared for, Bridgette is hands-down one of the funniest and silliest! And she makes her foster family laugh hysterically every single day.
Learning How to Be a Dog
Bridgette came into rescue as a feral dog, meaning she had very little experience with the world and the people in it. For a dog like Bridgette, even ordinary things can feel overwhelming. Her transformation didn't happen overnight.
It happened through routine. Through consistency. Through patience. Through giving her the space to figure things out on her own. And slowly, Bridgette began to realize that she was safe.
Once she understands her routine and feels comfortable in her environment, her personality comes bursting through. She loves her crate, affectionately known as her “house,” sleeps through the night, and is about 90% potty trained. She is also incredibly smart and eager to learn. Every day brings another little sign that Bridgette is understanding more about the world around her.
And Then Came the Goofy Girl
Somewhere along the way, Bridgette discovered something wonderful: Being a dog is really, really fun! Her foster family has gotten to see a side of her that probably seemed impossible when she first arrived. She plays HARD. She runs. She bounces. She gets silly. And she has absolutely no concept of personal space once she decides you're one of her people!
When Bridgette wants attention, she isn't shy about asking for it. She may use her paw in the classic Poodle and Doodle fashion, or she may give you an adorable little bark that seems to say, “Excuse me, but are you aware that I am right here?” This once-feral girl has become a professional attention seeker. And honestly, we couldn't be happier about it!
Dogs Helped Her Find Her Confidence
One of the most important parts of Bridgette's journey has been her relationship with other dogs. Bridgette LOVES dogs. They aren't simply playmates for her. They help her feel confident and comfortable as she navigates the world.
Watching her interact with other dogs has been another reminder of how much progress she has made. The dog who once struggled to understand the world around her now gets to run, play, wrestle, and simply enjoy being part of a pack. Her confidence continues to grow through those experiences.
The Little Victories Are the Big Victories
When we talk about rescue transformations, it's easy to picture the dramatic before-and-after. But Bridgette's story is really made up of hundreds of tiny victories. Coming out of her crate. Learning a routine. Sleeping peacefully through the night. Learning to potty outside. Choosing to play. Asking for attention. Running around the yard just because she can. Trusting a person a little more than she did yesterday.
For a dog who once didn't know how to trust humans, these things aren't small at all. They're enormous. And each one represents another piece of the world that Bridgette has learned isn't so scary after all.
A Completely Different Dog
There are still things Bridgette is learning. Trust doesn't happen on a schedule, and her journey isn't finished. But that's what makes her story so special. She didn't need someone to force her to become confident. She needed someone willing to wait. She needed someone to let her move at her own pace. She needed someone to show her, day after day, that she was safe. And once she had that foundation, Bridgette did what so many rescue dogs do when given the chance: She blossomed.
The scared, under socialized dog who once struggled to trust the people around her has become a hilarious, playful, joyful, wildly goofy girl. Her foster family didn't change who Bridgette was. They gave her the opportunity to discover who she could be.

Bridgette's transformation is a beautiful reminder of why rescue matters. Dogs don't always arrive knowing how to trust. They don't always know how to play, how to live in a home, or how to accept love. Sometimes they need time. Sometimes they need patience. Sometimes they need medical care, training, structure, and a safe place to decompress. And sometimes, they simply need someone to believe that the dog underneath the fear is still there.
