Melissa is one of the most dedicated, reliable, and admired volunteers that you’ll meet at Doodle Dandy. She joined the rescue in July 2022 as a foster then volunteered for the social media team as she’s been a full time content creator since 2012. Before long, she assumed the role of the Social Media team lead. The social media team has flourished under her leadership. She's always been there when she was needed most.
Melissa’s creativity, innovative ideas, and vast knowledge of social media (& Doodle Dandy) have made her a valuable asset and cherished member of the organization. There’s so much that Melissa does behind the scenes that no one ever sees or is aware of, but she’s always analyzing data to improve efficiency, looking at more effective ways to streamline processes, and making conscious efforts to improve performance and productivity. All of these things help her team positively impact the bottom line, which ultimately helps DDR save more doodles.
Melissa is frequently asked to work under pressure when we have urgent fundraising needs for dogs with medical emergencies, and she handles it with grace under fire, leaping into action on a moment's notice. She's also led multiple successful rescue fundraising campaigns such as North Texas Giving Day, Amplify Austin, and currently North Texas Gives to Animals. Melissa also created our blog 'Doodle Dandy Diaries' & she manages the DDR weekly newsletter, too! As if that weren't enough, she has worked closely with the Events Management team to constructively promote all events! Put simply, Melissa is a Rock Star!!!

Melissa expressed, “The thing I enjoy most is when we can see a direct impact of effective social media - when a dog gets adopted, or when we get our online community to rally around a dog that needs fundraising. I think everyone should know that DDR is one of the most organized nonprofits I've ever volunteered with. Fosters get a level of support I never experienced fostering dogs with other organizations. And other volunteers are also supported and encouraged to assume as much (or as little) responsibility as they want to take on to help."
