Bringing a new dog into the family, whether as a foster or forever addition, is an exciting time! But if you’ve got a resident dog already, it’s important to take introductions slow and steady. Sure, doodles have a reputation for being easygoing, happy-go-lucky pups who love everyone they meet—but even the friendliest pooch can have “meh” moments when meeting new friends.
Let’s face it, even the most sociable human doesn’t instantly click with every person they meet. Dogs are no different! Plus, depending on their breed mix and history, some doodles might be a bit more cautious (and less roll-with-the-paws) around new dogs.
Tips for a Pawsitive First Meeting
One of our expert training partners, Dawn from A Pawsitive Dawg, has shared some golden rules for successful dog-to-dog introductions:
Take it Slow: First impressions matter, and rushing the process can overwhelm both dogs.
Scent Swapping: Let the pups sniff out each other’s vibes before they meet face-to-face. Think of it as doggie social media stalking—safely gathering info before hitting “friend request.”
Patience is Key: Rome wasn’t built in a day, and a solid dog friendship won’t be either. Give the dogs time to warm up to each other on their own terms.

Bottom line: A little preparation can go a long way in helping your dogs build a happy, harmonious relationship. Slow and steady wins the (wagging tails) race!
