Fostering a rescue doodle is a deeply rewarding experience, though it comes with challenges. Here’s what to expect when you foster with us and how we’ll support you every step of the way.

Your Support Team

From the start, each foster is paired with a Foster Mentor as the main guide, plus a Medical Coordinator for health needs, a Supply Coordinator for essentials, a Social Media volunteer to share the dog’s journey, and many more. When adoption time arrives, an Adoption Coordinator will work with you to find the perfect match.

Supporting Your Foster’s Journey

• Medical Needs: Many foster dogs need to be spayed or neutered, and some may have unique health needs. Working closely with the Medical Coordinator helps make the process as seamless as possible.

• Adjusting to Home Life: Dogs need time to decompress and adjust to a new environment. We follow the “Rule of 3”: three days to decompress, three weeks to learn your routine, and three months to start to feel at home.

• Behavioral & Training Guidance: Some fosters may need extra support with behavior or training. Our team provides resources and advice to help your dog thrive.

Some fosters experience a “foster fail,” meaning they decide to adopt the dog they were caring for because they just can’t bear to part with them. For others, the joy comes from seeing transformations—dogs blossoming in confidence, recovering physically, and learning to trust. Each small milestone with your foster dog is an achievement in their journey toward a forever home.

Foster Mindset

Successful fostering requires commitment, patience, and teamwork. You’ll take your dog to vet appointments, work on training basics, and share updates for other volunteers to assist along the way. Every effort you put in helps prepare your foster for their forever family.

When your foster is ready, the Adoption Coordinator will work closely with you to identify the best match. Together, you’ll help connect the dog with a loving forever family, knowing you’ve played a crucial role in their journey.
