At Doodle Dandy Rescue, we’re all-in on doodles. Whether they’re giant teddy bears or scruffy little sidekicks, we’re here for the curls, the chaos, and everything in between.
But one thing we’ve learned after rescuing hundreds of these incredible dogs?
There’s no such thing as a “standard” doodle.
We totally get it. Many people come to us looking for a doodle because they’ve heard they’re hypoallergenic, non-shedding, and easygoing. And hey, sometimes that’s true! But here’s the scoop: doodles are mixes, and every mix is a little different. Their coat, personality, and even their health can vary wildly, even within the same litter.
And honestly? That’s what makes them so special.
Coats of Many Colors (and Textures)
Some doodles have that cloud-like, non-shedding coat people dream of. Others? They might shed like a retriever, have flatter or wirier hair, or require more frequent grooming than expected. Some change coat completely as they grow up. No two doodle coats are exactly the same, and that’s part of the magic.
Personality? There’s a Range.
Some doods are laid-back cuddlebugs. Others are smart, energetic, and need regular mental stimulation to stay happy (and out of your laundry basket). Remember, poodles are one of the most intelligent breeds out there — combine that with a golden, lab, Aussie, or Bernese, and you’ve got a recipe for a high-achieving, sometimes high-maintenance pup.
Every doodle is an individual. Some thrive in busy households with lots of activity. Others need a calm, predictable routine. Our job is to help you find the right match, not just the cutest one.

Health risks, temperament, and behavior can all vary based on their unique blend.
