As the year comes to a close, many of our amazing supporters look for ways to make a meaningful impact — and sometimes, the tax code gives us a little extra incentive to do good! If you’re 70½ or older, you may be eligible to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) that benefits Doodle Dandy Rescue and reduces your taxable income.
What Is a QCD?
A Qualified Charitable Distribution allows individuals aged 70½ and older to donate directly from their Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to a qualified charity like Doodle Dandy Rescue. The donation — up to $108,000 in 2025 — does not count as taxable income and can even help satisfy part or all of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) if you are 73 or older. Even though Texas doesn’t have a state income tax, QCDs still provide valuable federal tax savings by keeping your donation amount out of your taxable income — a great way to give smart and make a difference! In short: it’s a win-win! You can support doodles in need while also receiving valuable tax benefits.
How It Helps Doodle Dandy Rescue
Every dollar donated goes directly toward our mission — rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming doodles across Texas. Many of the dogs who come into our care need extensive medical treatments, surgeries, or behavioral support before they’re ready for adoption.
Take Atlas, for example — one of our doodles who arrived with severe allergies and painful skin infections. With the help of medication, specialist care, and a loving foster family, he made an incredible recovery and is now thriving in his forever home.
(See "Allergies in Doodles: Signs and Solutions" previous blog post for more information about allergies in doodles)
Or Jagger, who came to us heartworm positive and needed treatment and rest before he could finally live life to the fullest again. Thanks to generous donors, Jagger received the care he needed and is now enjoying his second chance at life.
(See "Heartworm-Positive Dogs: What You Need to Know (and Why There’s Hope!)" previous blog post for more information about heartworm in doodles)
Stories like Atlas’s and Jagger’s are possible only because of supporters who help fund critical medical care and specialized treatments. Your QCD donation ensures that more doodles receive the same chance to heal and find their happily-ever-after!
How to Make a QCD
If you qualify and want to give this way, simply contact your IRA custodian or financial advisor and let them know you’d like to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution to Doodle Dandy Rescue. They’ll help you send the funds directly to the rescue so your donation remains tax-free.
Give Hope, Change Lives
Whether through a QCD, a one-time donation, or a monthly gift, your support gives doodles a second chance — one filled with comfort, care, and unconditional love. From all of us at Doodle Dandy Rescue, thank you for helping us save lives, one doodle at a time!
