Hey, Doodle Owners! Elina here, Founder of Dood Woof. If you have a Doodle, you know these “muppet-like dogs” get tangles and mats easily. And in order to keep them healthy and mat-free, a regular grooming routine is necessary.
By the end of this article, you’ll understand the grooming basics and how to keep your Doodle looking their best.
At-Home Doodle Grooming Basics
Doodles have unique coats that can be a mix of curly, wavy, or straight fur. No matter what type of hair your Doodle has, an at-home grooming routine is essential.
Brushing
It’s recommended to brush your Doodle weekly. Depending on their hair type, you MAY get away with weekly brushing (not recommended).
Using your slicker brush, gently work through the tangles, starting from the ends and gradually working your way up to the roots.
If you encounter a mat or tangle, spray Dood Woof Doodle Detangler Spray and use your fingers to gently loosen it before re-brushing.
Follow-up with a metal comb to catch any tangles you missed.
Bathing
It is recommended to bathe your Doodle every 4-6 weeks. That being said, use your best judgment. If your Doodle is swimming in the pool or rolling around in dirt, you may want to bathe more frequently.
For bathing, use lukewarm water and a dog-specific shampoo. DO NOT use human shampoo. Dog’s have a different pH than humans.
After the bath, towel dry or blow dry your pup.
Finally, spray the Dood Woof Doodle Detangler Spray to help brush through the hair and prevent any tangles.

Trimming and Styling
Unless you've taken grooming courses, I would leave professional haircuts to the groomers. That being said, you can still do small maintenance at home.
For maintenance, you can trim the hair around your Doodle’s eyes to help them see better. You can also clip your Doodle’s nails in-between grooming visits.
Dealing with Mats
Even with regular brushing, Doodles can sometimes get mats. If you find a mat, here’s what you can do:
Try to gently work through the mat with your fingers.
If that didn’t work, spray the Dood Woof Doodle Detangler Spray and try to brush the mat out gently.
If the mat is too close to the skin or you're unsure of what to do, call your groomer for their recommended next steps.
Please remember, if you regularly brush your dog and use the Doodle Detangling Spray, you will prevent most mats from occurring in the first place.
Professional Grooming
Every 4-8 weeks, take your Doodle to a professional groomer. They will bathe and do a full haircut for your pup.
